Pheasant Dress Pattern Tester Call- Now Closed

UPDATE: The Pheasant Dress Pattern Tester Call is now closed, thank you to everyone who applied!

Joseon Modern Designs is now looking for pattern testers for the Pheasant Dress, which is inspired by 1970s prairie dresses. Cup Sizes A-H, two bicep options, and illustrated instructions are included with the test pattern.

There are three garments to choose from: a dress, a separate skirt, and a separate top, which all have several variations.

Some of these variations include:

-Choice of Gathered (pattern pieces included) or Fitted Skirt (thorough instructions and adjustment charts included)

-V-Neck or Scoop Neck Bodice (Cup Sizes A-G/H Included)

-Optional Scoop Neck Collar and/or Center Front Contrast

-Front Lacing with Optional Modesty Panel

-Choice of Lapped Side or Back Zipper

-Choice of Peasant or Pieced Peasant Sleeve with a Contoured Cuff (Standard and Full Bicep Options Included)

-Choice of Waistband or No Waistband for the Dress and Separate Top

-Optional Dress Waist Ties

-Long Circle Skirt with Optional Cutaway Pockets or Anchored Pockets and/or a Skirt Contrast

-Gored Circle Skirt

-Optional Ruffles

-Optional Lace or Ribbon Trim

-Optional Colorblocking with Yardage Recommendations

The Pheasant Dress yardage charts are designed in a build-your-own dress format that is also reflected in the markers/cutting layouts. Multiple charts can be added together to build your own selected variation. All cup sizes A-G/H and standard and full bicep options are included in the yardage charts.

Pattern Test Details:

There are several slots open for testers! Full requirements and details can be found in the application form linked to this post. The pattern tester application process will close on Wednesday, Jan. 8 at 9pm PST. (JMD is based in California). Selected pattern testers will be notified by Thurs., Jan. 9, by 9pm, and will receive the test files by Friday, Jan. 10, 9pm PST.

The test period will end Sunday, Jan. 26, at 9pm PST (spanning 3 weekends and a little over 2 weeks).

JMD is looking for sewers who meet the following criteria:

  • Are age 18 or older

  • Are able to print patterns in an A4/Letter or A0 format or test patterns with a Projector (JMD patterns are not Ditto compatible)

  • Are able to make their chosen variation of the pattern and provide feedback within the given period

  • Possess an intermediate level or above sewing skill and are familiar with their standard pattern adjustments

  • Are able to photograph themselves wearing the Pheasant dress and give Joseon Modern Designs the right to use submitted photos for pattern marketing and promotional purposes

  • Please Note: Unfortunately, JMD is unable to accept testers from the EU or Northern Ireland at this time in order to comply with the GPSR.

What Pattern Testers Receive:

This is an unpaid test. However, testers will receive:

  • A full copy of the finalized E-Pattern in their chosen size range (including an illustrated Fitting Guide) upon completion

  • A free pattern credit to a JMD pattern of your choosing upon completion (The Magpie and Night Heron Dresses are currently published and have interchangeable pattern pieces compatible with the Pheasant Dress. I also have several other patterns, including a series of 70s inspired prairie and renaissance dresses planned for 2025!)

  • Sewing and construction support in a closed Facebook tester group (optional)

  • Individual feedback and assistance

While JMD patterns are often inspired by true vintage clothing, including the Pheasant Dress, I personally draft each pattern to my own separate size range blocks! More about my pattern drafting and my recommended resource list can be found here.

  • JMD patterns are not graded reproductions of another company’s vintage sewing patterns

  • JMD patterns are not made by taking tracings of or cutting apart vintage or antique clothing- I draft and apply inspiration style lines to my own separate blocks

  • JMD patterns are not graded up from a size 0 to a 32
