Bootstrap Fashion Custom Dress Form Pattern Review

I wanted a good plus-size dress form to test fit when drafting plus-size patterns, but couldn’t afford a more accurate form. I ended up making my own dress form and arm using Bootstrap Fashion’s custom-made patterns and was thrilled with the results! (I’m not an affiliate).

What I like about the pattern is that you can customize it to your specs and there are so many other dress form options to choose from. The patterns are also ready about 30 min after ordering. I added a rounded tummy and a swayback, and my form’s final dimensions are:

Bust: 50in/127cm

Waist: 44in/111.5cm

Hip: 54in/137cm

Bicep: 16.25in/41cm

Since patterns are ideally drafted to the middle of the size range, this form should allow me to confidently draft up to a 56in bust, 50in waist, and 60in hip! (The dress form pattern itself is customizable and can accommodate a wider range).

I ended up using thrifted sheets for the materials and flatlining rather than using interfacing or interlining, a mid-range coat rack from Amazon for the base (I wanted the extra support to keep it from tipping over), a length of pvc from the hardware store, and cushion foam and stuffing using some serious coupons from my local fabric store. All in all, including the cost of the patterns, I think it cost me less than $120.

I also made an arm for Marian to go with her size range, it was a pretty quick make

If you’re looking for an affordable custom dress form, I’d definitely recommend Bootstrap Fashion’s patterns!
